The Big Green Eyed Monster

from Treehouse by Hugh Wilson & The Blue Phoenix

/

lyrics

There once was a kingdom called Caergard
That fell to the big green eyed monster’s attacks
The monster would come just as all started sleeping
and filled all their dreams with distortions of facts

When morning came the whole kingdom imploded
as brother fought brother for use of a sword
Sisters fought mothers for use of the baths
& lovers would wake up and not say a word

They never let on
and they’d never tell anyone how
They never had won
When facing the big green eyed monster again

A man and a woman set out after quarrelling
To try discover the green monster’s lair
Set in the south in the heart of a swampland
They came to his lair in much dread and much fear

But fighting all day with it proved fairly useless
Until they decided on something to do
They threw off their armour and tore down defences
gave into each other and started anew

In that way they won
and they went and told everyone how
They always could win
When facing the big green eyed monster again
