I recorded a ton of vocal tracks for this song, each one in my mind a "character", with different tone, phrasing etc. I wanted it to sound like a large group of people voicing the same regret.
The song is a sort of a picture of hell. A place a person brings upon themself, with the resultant regret that hindsight in it's genius brings.
Mark Ovenden did a brilliant job on the keys/percussion programming, and also added into the breakdown, a quote from "Dune" (which to my own regret now, is drowned out by my screams).
The quote is from Leto Atreides regarding change, finishing with "without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens".
lyrics
Here
Here in this land of mould
You can see
The self-inflicted resolve
I brought me here
Alive
I made the choice for now
Tonight
All I (can) feel is your scream
I brought me here
The way
Was shone clearly into my eyes
Had I heard
I would've survived
I brought me here
Just for the ear
Who decides to enact upon
And not despise
What he's never read
Don't bring you here...
