Ground Control

from WRONG by Hugh Wilson

/

about

This is a very old song of mine. Written in the early 90s.
I recorded a demo of it at the time, but never released it.
So this year, I decided to do a version.

lyrics

GROUND CONTROL

I wish I was ground control
Then if you could fly
We could take our eyes from here

Once there was another time where progress had it seemed
Changed our way of thinking from creating death machines
Other worlds were colonised more living things enslaved
Robots built to keep the peace and make sure we behaved

Many ships had travelled far to find the last frontier
But had we travelled in we may have learned to face our fears
And it seems all I can do is dream about the day
Where you and I will find the time to wander through the maze

I wish I was ground control
Then if you could fly
We could take our eyes from here

I looked beneath the wedding gown of compromise and shame
and saw reflections of a world where life was just the same
I thought about embarking on a plan to make some change
But realised as age creeps on it soon falls out of range

Will I now just be content to try and find someone
Who feels the same about it and won’t hold me with a gun
Or should we live as islands with our dreams held in the sky
spun around our eyes so we can always still ask why
